Ride & Destroy, Keepin it Metal, Ep. 2

I trust you’ve done your homework from Episode 1. How do you feel? Perhaps a little bit angry? Maybe confused? That’s ok. As we continue on those feelings will begin to dull. Well, the anger may stay but we’ll get to dealing with that as the season draws closer. In Episode 2 we’ll cover bicycle training as the new year begins. Let’s get things straight from the get go; training has nothing to do with keepin it metal. In fact, training is detrimental to keeping it metal. I know, I know, you’re probably thinking “how am I supposed to destroy the competition?” You ride, and you ride a lot. Bike practice is an acceptable substitute for “training” as is getting rad. There is nothing more metal than riding by feel. Do you feel fresh? Then crush the pedals til you’re ready to puke. Feeling tired? Take a nice spin and enjoy your surroundings. Work on your singletrack skills through the local winter dog walking trails. Only have 30 minutes to workout? Go for a run or a snowshoe. The season is too far away to get burned on riding the trainer. This is an important distinction: setting things on fire (both literally and figuratively) is metal while getting burned on riding is not. Here are your two homework problems until next time. You must determine if it is metal or non-metal. A)I totally destroyed my 20 minute LT test on the trainer last night! I'm up 3 Watts/KG. B)On my way to work this morning I blazed the SW Path singletrack. I ate it hard at the creek crossing with all this ice.
