Shortest Season on Record…

2010 looked set to be my best season yet as a cyclist. Having accepted that parenthood and triathlon are not cosy bedfellows, it has taken me a few years to get the hang of my time management and training well enough to be in any way competetive and it was all coming together. On the road I was hanging with my group at the races and my mid pack mountain biking exploits were slowly moving into the first half of the pack. My ego want to make it clear at this point that in Denmark there are not a lot of mountainbike races so it is not unusual for the top 10 of every race to be made up of international level riders so the level is pretty high. Anyway, it was going well until the day after my last race when I woke up with a pain down my left leg. Over the last 2 weeks, this has grown into debilitating sciatica resulting from a herniated disc in my back. What does that mean then? Well according to my doctor, that means that I will be out of action for about 6 months until my back sorts itself out. As an aside it also means that I have had to stop eating to try and avoid gaining 10 pounds each week that I spend lying on th floor and that I suspect I will have to trade in my hardtail for a full susser in the future. Why couldn't this have happened in October? I hope that the rest of the team has a great summer and get some great results on my behalf.
