2012 LaGrange Spring Classic

Weaverville, CA

by: Don Simone

Bad-ass, is all I can say about Weaverville riding. The LaGrange Spring Classic is so under-attended, just a crying shame. This was mine and my son's first trip there, and we were stoked to be there. Warm and sunny in Reno, Weaverville offered awesome riding conditions - brown dirt, rain, hail, slight snow, rain, and more sweet brown dirt - no dust this day! Big group start, and settled in at the advice of a friend, mid-pack'ish. After feeling good and warmed up, started moving through the group a bit. After about 30 minutes, things got real climby for a solid hour in this single look course. Passed some more guys who went hard too early, and then hit the most awesome flume trail system (2nd to Downieville CA!) I've been on. Picked my way through some carnage in the hard cold rain, and was close to my 2 hour goal by a couple minutes; but 4th, no podium for you! My son nailed 2nd in the juniors, so at least 1 Simone was on the steps - we'll take it!
