2012 Peavine Challenge

Reno, NV
Sunday June 03, 2012
by: Don Simone

NorCal comes to Reno, NV! Historically, the Peavine Challenge has been on the list for NorCal riders to qualify for Nats, this year was no exception. Good field of riders this day. Peavine mountain makes up most of this course, with some 2200ft of climby stuff per 13 mile lap. 100% of the course if exposed to the sun, gnarly. This year didn't go as well as last year, but it was 4th in a 4 races in a row series and well, my legs were just tired. I felt it right off the start, I was no match for the day and just tried to enjoy some of the suffering. At least the weather wasn't terrible, low 80s isn't bad in June, so all in all I couldn't complain about being out on a bike! The Bobsled downhill was still super kewel, but awfully short from what I remembered from the year before, and not much passing opportunities. Still, gotta love fast flowy descents with some rock drops thrown in for bonus points. Finished way off the podium, mid-pack'ish, and glad to get some rest before building back up for a late June XC race.
