BIKE LINE XC @ FAIR HILL/MID ATLANTIC SUPER SERIES

FAIR HILL, MD
Sunday June 03, 2012
by: John Glodek

Bright and sunny skies met my wife and I at the Fair Hill Race. The race was originally slated to kick off the season back in April, but huge rains put the course under water. Fast forward to June. New date. Great weather. Tacky and fast course. Kitted up in Full DARK METAL for the race. Spun the legs out to warm up the engine. Close to 80 racers lined up for the dirt party. I had a second row line up. Boom. We were off. I fell into line in the top 15. A long sweeping doubletrack downhill brought us the 1.5 miles to the singletrack. Fair Hill is fast, punchy, and loads of fun. I sat in for the fast pace of the first of 2 laps around the course. I felt slightly blown mid way in the first lap. Had to choke down some of my breakfast that was trying to see the light of day. Came through the Finish Area and grabbed a fresh bottle from Stacy. Drilled it back down into the singletrack. I started picking up and dropping off other racers that got spit out the lead group. Confidence was super high. I was hitting all my climbs and descents. Before I knew it I had a group of 4 breathing down my neck. So what did I do? Got out of the saddle and drilled it as hard as I could for the last 2 miles. Held off the chase and picked off one more spot at the finish. Solid day on the bike.12th on the day. Big kisses and hugs from Stacy. A big lunch with my mom, sister, and Stacy. Thanks for reading!
