I arrived at the start with winds of 20+ mph and lightning. EXACTLY what you want before you hop in a lake for a 1.2 mile swim!
The swim was fairly uneventful. The water was warm and my full wetsuit made me HOT.
The bike course was awesome. Hills, turns, some flat, tons of wind and pouring rain at the end. I figured Texas scenery would be minimal, but the course is actually beautiful, as you drop into a canyon multiple times.
For this race I decided to really push the pace on the bike and it paid off. I rode 56 miles in 2:36. Only two female pros rode faster.
It quit raining part way into the 13.1 mile run, and the sun tried to come out. Steamy is a good description, although not unbearably hot. I moved into 1st female position on the run and held that place to the end, resulting in a PR for me of 4:45 total time. The people in Texas are awesome and I would definitely race in Lubbock again!
