Dirty Little Secret/KS State Championships

Fancy Creek State Park, Randolph KS

Made it out to Fancy Creek State Park, KS for the 2012 Dirty Little Secret/KS State Championships on a course that chewed me up and spit me out last year. Being the Kansas State Championship MTB race and myself a Missouri boy, I knew that there were going to be a bunch of people more motivated than I was and prepared to dig way deep to score a podium spot for this one. Lined up with the Cat 1’s the same spot at last year. I immediately told everyone that they better beat me to the singletrack because I can’t ride a rock to save my life and we all knew the first couple miles had some technical sections. The folks that don’t know me seemed rather perturbed that I would shoot for the hole shot and not have any technical skills to speak of. I had no real intentions of doing so, but I choose to keep that to myself, well, because I find it rather funny. Start went off without a hitch and I started to get my arse handed to me from the get go. My race goes as follows; dig deep, put in gap, hit rocks, crap, get caught, more rocks, crap again, get passed, repeat.. My race personally was not very good, but the course was in great shape. Fancy Creek State Park is a wonderful venue for a MTB race! The promoters did a awesome job, you should check out the trails if your ever in the area (Manhattan, KS). Lookin forward to this weekend, the next MTB race comes home to my back yard (Robidoux Roundup, St. Joseph MO)! Nothing but climbing and flowy single track. Rocks are for the birds man, they’re going to turn me into a roadie if I’m not careful!! Detailed report on my blog here if your interested. http://jdoug-ocd.blogspot.com/
