Lumberjack 100

I remember, the 35 sweet goodbyes. When you put me on the Wolverine to the Lumberjack.
5th session of getting Lumberjacked. The race switched formats this year, from 4x25 in years past to 3x33 this year. If you ask me, this years stung a little bit more than years past. In the past, this race was ALL single track. The new format added a little bit of dirt road and two track to the mix, but only a little. Usually the dirt road gives a touch of relief, but not at the LJ. The first section was fairly sandy and could suck the mojo right out of your legs, the second was smooth and fast, but led you to a very evil section of trail.
I had “my old school” by Steely Dan stuck in my head all day. It was the right medicine. This is a life’s work. It’s a magical blend of harmony, horn, piano, Fagan’s voice and choice lyrics that blend into a perfect casserole. It’s always a crap shoot as to the demons that will haunt your head during one of these 100’s and “my old school” was a little drop of honey that eased the day.
9:22 on the clock while running a 32x18 on the drivetrain. Always a good time as you run into others who have been stripped of their spirit and are rolling down the Lumberjack line with you.
Huge at-a-boy to T6er, Jorden Wakeley. JW turned a 7:30-something on his SS and wound up podium bound. Keep up the studly ways young jedi.
“I did not know the LJ could be so cruel”
