Early season ‘tune-up’ race.  Felt good to get back into the routine of packing gear, cleaning the bike, filling bottles, etc the night before.  Rockburn puts on a solid ‘cross race…this was their first attempt at XC…I would say it was a success.  Solid course…dry…fast…one technical root section to break the speed up a little…but all in all it was 15 miles of all out racing.

Got a nice second row spot…the new ‘Full Metal’ Kit got plenty of second glances.  Gun went off and the first 9 riders pinned it…I hung on for as long as I could without burning my legs out.  Fell off the front mid-way through the second lap and found myself in ‘no man’s land’...hard to keep the pace when you are on your own.  3rd lap was uneventful…finished hard…legs were cooked…smile on the face…15th out of 50 on the day…I’ll take it.

The race was a solid marker for where I am physically and mentally for the campaign this season.  I know I have got some work to do…but everything is looking full on!
