U of CO Crit

Boulder, CO

Boulder was very nice. Very nice, in the way there was no snow, sunshine, and i could wear shorts and a jersey without the fear of frostbite.
The journey with the Fort Lewis College Cycling Team started very interesting. Our team rented a Suburban for the journey, along with driving the team truck. Bikes piled in, and we hit the road. About half way from Durango to Denver the suburban decided to only accelerate to 25mph, making our trip a little longer than expected.

This year, I’ve decided to start making videos, documenting the Fort Lewis journies to the front range, and our success throughout the season. And you can see these videos on my facebook page (Missy Marie Erickson), and soon you will be able to see them on the Fort Lewis College Cycling home page (www.cycling.fortlewis.edu).

Saturday our race was the University of Colorado Criterium, in Boulder, CO. I raced in the women’s A category, and it was a rough one. I was racing with 5-6 CU riders, 3 other individual riders. CU attacked the entire race, trying to get a break to move. Covering all the attacks, I let one go, and that was the one that stuck. With a CU rider then off the front, and no one to work with, it turned into a race for second place, and when it came down to the final sprint, i came out in 3rd.

This was indeed a race that i was proud of. I’ve learned this season that winning is not everything. If i come out of each race learning something, it has been a success. No crashes, only lessons learned. That is how this season shall go. I am really looking forward to it, and when my fitness comes around, I know I can achieve anything.
