WORS #3 Big Ring Classic Sunday June 07, 2009

Two reports for the price of one!
After returning from our Asheville trip I promptly crashed (at the Kettles, no less) tweaked my left shoulder and took myself down a few fitness pegs, up a few beer pegs, and off of any serious riding for three weeks. This was the start of May. By June I was ready to contest some WORS races and show my face in the OPEN SS class for the 2010 season.
I always fancy Nine Mile in Wausau for a number of reasons: I tend to podium there in both WORS and 24/9, I love the venue and course, and now there is a Great Dane Brewpub in town.
I usually have a few WORS races in my legs by Nine Mile, but this year it was my first. I lined up, shot the bull with the guys and was surprised that Don was no longer yelling “GOOOO!!!” but instead using a starter’s pistol app on his iphone, which he showed off proudly to every class.
Alright, Don did shout.
We raced three loops of a pretty sweet course. It was hot and dusty, but after the race was finished I discovered I was the fifth SS in. Podium. Cool. Not-Cool: I missed the ceremony.
REPORT TWO:
Sunburst Ski Area, WORS #4
Don got a new iphone app and started us to the sounds of yakety sax instead his trademark “GO!”
This race was a bit different than Nine Mile, for one the start was behind the comp guys, which meant more picking through riders as the race progressed. The venue was also different. Almost no singletrack or shade, lots of open field turns on grass, and a smaller group to race.
It was a humid day as well, with rain falling everywhere around the course, but not on the course.
The circuits on the day were shorter, so we tallied four before the race was over. We started fast, I found myself floating top-three most of the race and finished in third. Podium. Sweet. Even made the presentation this time.
