Another race close to home means no out of town adventure. I played some football in the morning and was happy with our win. It rained and pre-ride was delayed. I had to choose from the Brewers or riding. Oh yeah it was a luxury suite. Home by ten from the game…
Got up by six and starting packing. Grill, tent, table, chairs, lucky to remember bikes and gear. About an hour ride down to the track and I got dressed right away. I wanted to get in a lap after hearing how tough the course was. It was, lots of climbs and it’s easy to get lost with all the cut-offs.
Warmed up and to the line. Got a callup and waited for the GOOOOOOOOOOO! Quick climb at the start and another after the downhill. I hit the singletrack around 7th. Conditions were good and the roots and rocks dried up. This is a tough course for a rigid and I ran super low pressure. Not too many rocks but tons of roots. A bunch of traffic in the singletrack and it was hard to get it to flow. Second lap, fresh water and some gel, ready to hit it again. I didn’t lay it down and made every climb. Somehow it just zaps your power though. The course is brutal and you never stop spinning. Gained one spot and just held on. 6th place meant no METAL but with two left I can still get on the podium again. Cooled down and spent time with my peeps.
We cooked out and I played football with Shane. Watched the pro’s in the rock garden for some excitement. Schirpke cafe was full all afternoon. Here’s a few: Ben(Great win), John, Lynne, Connie, Maja, Travis, Louie, Darren, Lynn, Richard, Riley, Wally, Jim, Ronsta, Kelli, Jesse, Elizabeth, Paul, Regina, Kid Rock, Paul, Mark, Matt, Kate, Greg, Andi, Sonia and a bunch of others. Took awhile to get camp packed up and down the hill.
Early night home meant we had time for a movie. See you at Lapham on Wednesdays. Cross practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays. CX race #1 this Saturday. Didn’t get into Fat Tire, oh well too bad for them. Guess I’ll score some USAC instead.
Ride it like you stole it,
Andy
