WORS#10 Treadfest - Juniors

Lake Geneva, WI
WORS #10 Treadfest Sunday September 13, 2009
by: Andrew Schirpke

Didn’t get into Fat Tire 40…you have to be 12! So this report is last weeks Treadfest.

Close race to home so another non-vacation race weekend :( We headed down to Lake Geneva Saturday after my football game. I had a safety so I was already pretty stoked. 26-0 didn’t hurt either. Got down around 2PM and gathered up some peeps. Did a lap with my cuz Travis. I wasn’t feeling good, maybe too much in one day. I hung up my gloves for the day after only 1 lap and registered.

Saw a few people like Danielle,Jeff, Kid Rock and my old chapel partner Calvin. My aunt and uncle were there and lots of regulars. Don(sporting a new jersey). Thanks to all the WORS posse for all they do. They turn a resort into a race event in hours.

Headed home for the night after my dad did another lap. Made chicken pasta when we got home and got to bed early. When we don’t stay onsite I have to get up extra early since I race first.

Light breakfast loaded up the fam and we were off by 7:30. Parked and saw the Senkeriks right away. So many friends on race day. Started to warm up and get the gear ready. A few trips up the hill and made sure everything was working ok.

All the competition was on the line at this race. Fletcher was there looking to lock up first and Jeffrey is fighting to get back into second. Before you know it the Anthem is over and Don is yelling GOOOOOOOOO! About 7th up the first hill 6th after the first downhill and 4th by the singletrack after the long 2nd climb. The first singletrack is rocket fast and you steer more then peddle. Clawed my way to third and hoped to get Jeff. The course is super technical and I had all I could do to stay rubber down. Towards the end my dad chased me down, yelling he was going to catch me. I can’t believe his crocs didn’t go flying.

3rd Place finish and I drop to 3rd overall. Good job Fletcher for locking up 1st! I still get to wear my pirate T on the podium. Get your METAL in style…

We hung out the rest of the day and watched the Pro’s. We had some hand-ups to do and my dad had some beer to drink and serve. People were looking terrible and it just kept getting hotter. Great track for viewing and you could see the leaders a few times. The Rock Garden was insane. Congrats to Mark for another great race. Everyone worked hard just to finish.

Fall festival this weekend and maybe a trip to Mad-town to see some world class riders. Next race Shawano… see you there!
