WORS#9 Reforestation - Juniors

WORS #9 Reforestation Ramble Sunday August 30, 2009
by: Andrew Schirpke
This one starts with the familiar Saturday morning pack-up. Cuz came over in the morning and we loaded the bikes. Dad said “crap” when he grabbed his front brake lever and buried it to the bar. 2 hours later and we started on our way. Ritual Subway and some gas and we were finally on the road.
Got darker and darker as we headed north. In a couple hours we were driving by the hotel. We were later then usual so we checked in. Crashed in the room and watched a little weather on the (2)flat screens…sweet…Figured we’d leave the rides in the room and register since the track was a couple miles down the road.
Rain was on and off. We signed up and just chilled. Bought a T and talked to riders coming in. Bikes looked ok but we were loosing motivation fast. We all agreed to keep the bikes clean and do other stuff instead. These are vacation weekends, right?
Got back to the room and we all voted on bowling. Walked across the lot and rented some shoes. Bowled a couple games and decided to stick with biking. Back to the room to decide on supper. We’re lost without a Carb load feed. Chinese buffet is good but I think we’re going to save it for a couple days before a race. Tilted Kilt next time.
Got back to the hotel and went swimming. A couple hours later and we were pretty tired. Rested back at the room and watched a little TV. Sleeping by 10.
Sunday we got up and had a great breakfast. Loaded up and headed to the course. Got a good parking spot and started to warm up. As usual I go out first then my cousin and finally my dad. My mom and aunt met us there. Oh yea they were a little late. They stopped on the way up, Travis forgot to pack his helmet…Duh…
Got a call up and felt good. Russell got a head start as a rabbit then Don yells GOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I’m third up the hill and we’re moving. Got into 2nd and things are downhill from there. I was following Fletcher and we took direction from someone we thought was helping us. NOT. Sent 1st,2nd and 3rd down the wrong path. Instead of finishing we were off to do another 6 miles. Wasn’t ready for it, no water and I had a stick bite me in the leg. LAST PLACE…
I guess my parents were worried that the leaders got tangled and were hurt. Eventually word got back that some juniors were on the wrong course. I did have a good time(for a 12 mile loop). Recovery drink and light spinning. Some ice for the leg and the bike was racked for the day.
Cheered everyone on, did a hand-up for my dad. Pro’s and sports were all out at the same time. Made for some interesting viewing. Great weather and good times. Jesse got his win on a prototype belt SS…cool…
Waited to see everyone get their hardware. No METAL for me this trip. My dad says it will help me to train harder this week. We’ll see…
Time to move up?????
